We help those that help others vote!

Who We Help

VEP supports nonpartisan community-based nonprofits focused on voter engagement among communities of color, youth, rural voters, and other historically disenfranchised communities. We tailor our support to these Frontline Partners’ areas of need to assist them in expanding their capacity to register, educate, and/or mobilize more voters. VEP’s assistance is available specifically for a Partner’s voter engagement activities (i.e. voter registration, education, GOTV etc), and is provided free of charge. Interested organinizations can apply through Our Application Portal (opens in early December 2025).

How We Help

VEP provides pro bono technical assistance in a variety of fields through a network of talented volunteers who bring expertise in communications, writing and editing, data analysis, web design, social media, operations, volunteer recruitment and other areas. Starting in 2025. There are several ways through which Frontline Partners can receive technical assistance, with each program having eligibility criteria based on an organization’s size, focus area and other factors.

1. PROJECT-BASED SUPPORT - VEP Volunteers with relevant skills assist with specific projects requested by Frontline Partners. VEP oversees the Volunteer’s work and provides the Partner with the final results or review and approval. Examples of projects include helping draft monthly newsletters, researching updates to voting rules in state, analyzing data on changes in race/age demographics in target counties, updating language on their civic engagement web page, creating educational videos on how to access a mail in ballot in their state etc.)

Open to: local, state, or multi-state organizations that are small to medium sized, have voter engagement as a core activity, and have needs unmet by other sources of technical assistance (priority focus: organizations that are smaller sized, are led by people of color, and are in a state designated as a priority by VEP).

Requirements: able to identify one or more concrete project needs, provide detailed information required for the project, and be responsive to occasional requests for information and feedback.

2. MATCHING PROGRAM - VEP will match one or more Volunteers for a longer term working engagement with a Frontline Partner (e.g. ~3-4 months). The Volunteer can be integrated into the Partner’s team and will focus on tasks based on their skills and availability, with a time commitment to be worked out by the parties (e.g. 2 hrs/week or 10 hours per month).

Open to: local, state, or multi-state organizations that are small to medium sized, have a voter engagement program, and have areas of need unmet by other sources  of technical assistance (priority focus: organizations that are led by people of color and/or from other historically underrepresented backgrounds and are in a state designated as a priority by VEP).

Requirements: able to provide adequate support and supervision for the Fellow, respect their availability and other obligations in life, and assign them to meaningful activities that takes advantage of their expertise.

3. CONSULTATION PROGRAM - Volunteers with very high-level of expertise in a field will be available for a quick one-on-one consultations with a Frontline Partner that is interested in learning more about topics related to the Volunteer’s area of expertise (e.g. social media strategy, messaging, fundraising, HR, accounting systems, field organizing etc).

Open to: local, state, or multi-state organizations with an existing or newly planned voter engagement program that have needs unmet by other sources of technical assistance (priority focus: organizations that are small to medium sized, are led by people of color and/or from other historically underrepresented backgrounds, and are in a state designated as a priority by VEP).

Requirements: able to clearly identify a specific topic/area of interest and have a plan for taking advantage of the information and guidance provided.

VOTER OUTREACH - VEP will link interested volunteers to non-partisan door knocking, phone banking, text banking, and other direct voter outreach activities organized by Frontline Partners, with an emphasis on matching volunteers based on their lived experience, background, and ties to the communities being contacted.

Open to: Organizations with strategic and high impact nonpartisan voter outreach activities that are done taking into account who the best messengers are for the communities being contacted (priority focus: Organizations selected for Project-based Services).
